This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Velocardiofacial Syndrome (VCFS) is a genetic disorder caused by a deletion of chromosome 22q11. Individuals with VCFS can display a variety of impairments such as dysmorphic facial features, cardiac abnormalities, and learning disabilities. In addition, individuals with VCFS are at an increased risk of developing illnesses like schizophrenia. Little is known about how this absence of DNA is related to an increased risk of psychiatric illness. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to combine neuropsychological tests that measure functions of the frontal lobe with brain imaging techniques to better understand VCFS.
