This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study is closed. This study looks at the potential of soy isoflavones to improve memory and other cognitive skills with a 6 month intervention study. The study enrolled 30 cognitively and physically healthy older adults; 15 men and 15 women were asked to take 100 mg of isoflavones or a matching placebo pill. They were then asked to undergo cognitive testing on severaloccasions while taking the pills. Cognitive performance while on medication will be compared to a pre-treatment testing session. Data collection is complete for this project. Subjects have tolerated the medication well making no reports of untoward role effects. Data analysis is expected to be completed by Summer 200
