The Pilot Core (PC) will work with the Management and Administrative Core (MAC) to support small-scale and innovative pilot projects that are consistent with the overall theme of the Northwest Roybal Center (NRC). Specifically, NRC pilot studies will focus on innovative approaches to improve the health, wellbeing, quality of life and productivity of older adults with cognitive impairment, midlife and older adults at risk for cognitive impairment, and their caregivers through the translation of basic behavioral and social sciences research. Furthermore, the PC will work with the MAC to ensure that each Pilot Study: (1) addresses one or more of the thematic areas of focus identified in the current FOA, (2) moves basic behavioral and biobehavioral research toward the ultimate goal of translation, and (3) leads to additional, larger research efforts to further implement translation activities into a program or product. Finally, the PC will work with the MAC to involve both junior and established researchers from a variety of disciplines in the work of the NRC, and will foster interaction and collaboration among the pilot investigators and outside agencies and corporate partners.
