The Administrative Core is the key unit in CHIPTS that manages, coordinates and evaluates overall Centerscience and research enhancement activities; Table 3.1 summarizes the Administrative Core's primaryfunctions. The Core routinely interfaces with all Center Cores(Development, Methods, Policy, Intervention andInternational) to facilitate the development and execution ofscience, networking and capacity building activities and services. The Administrative Core consists of: (1) a Senior LeadershipTeam (Center Co-Directors and an Executive Director), (2)Core Committee (which includes the investigators on the Center's Senior Leadership Team, Core Co-Directors, Core Associate Directors, and Core Scientists. (3) Scientific and Community Advisory Boards, and(4) Center support staff. The Administrative Core's activities are carried out by the Senior Leadership Team(Rotheram-Borus, Bing, Etzel) in conjunction with Core scientists and staff. The Core is advised by a ScientificAdvisory Board, a Community Advisory Board and the Center's Core Committee (which includes the SeniorLeadership Team, all Core Directors, Associate Directors, and Core Scientists).Among the administrative and management mechanisms are a strategic planning process (e.g., retreats andCenter consultation sessions), ongoing evaluation, and electronic and web-based communications networks. The Core makes effective use of internal expertise (Center Core Committee), external resources (ScientificAdvisory and Community Advisory Boards) and affiliated linkages to provide science, networking and capacitybuilding leadership.
