The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Nef alleles of SIVmac, SIVsmm and HIV-2 were tested for the ability to downregulate rhesus macaque and sooty mangabey MHC class I molecules with unique amino acid differences in their cytoplasmic tails to determine if selective MHC class I downregulation is a conserved mechanism of immune evasion for pathogenic SIV infection of rhesus macaques and non-pathogenic SIV infection of sooty mangabeys.
