The mission of the Enrichment Program is to support and develop activities that encourage and foster research training, dissemination of information and to enhance collaborative research investigations. This ncludes the broadening of these activities to other Institutions by joint participation and videoconferencing of important lectures and joint participation of trainees in symposia and other venues. A well-known feature of the environment at Einstein is the cooperative and collegial atmosphere in which research is conducted, and the DRTC facilitates these collaborations by hosting many high-caliber educational events for its faculty and trainees. The Enrichment Program is an important component of the DRTC whereby invited scientists and DRTC investigators present their research accomplishments. The program enhances the quantity and quality of interchange among DRTC members and with diabetes investigators from other institutions. The Enrichment Program also increases the visibility of the DRTC to Einstein faculty at large and to other institutions, both by inviting visiting lecturers and through Einstein's leadership in regional diabetes research symposia. The program includes the annual Harold Rifkin Visiting Professor Lectureship, weekly DRTC Enrichment Lectures, Student Workshops and Junior Faculty Seminar Program. Research and clinical faculty, trainees from various programs, and students are encouraged to attend. The programs are nterdisciplinary and range from behavioral issues to fundamental basic science. The DRTC makes a major contribution to research training at Einstein. The DRTC provides integration between basic, clinical and translational research through numerous venues including its enrichment programs. The large number of faculty engaged in diabetes related research increase the visibility of diabetes as a important research target. The Cores and P&F program further enhance the visibility of diabetes research to trainees. The P&C activity and its involvement in the community and with other Institutions foster interest in behavioral and translational research by students, trainees and clinical faculty.
The Enrichment Program provides essential education and interaction between scientists. Through conferences and lectures from experts, there is increased collaboration and scientific interaction designed to promote interchange of ideas and hasten scientific progress.
