This project, creating a scientific visualization facility, supports research in fluid dynamics, geotechnical engineering, human factors in medical systems, image reconstruction and tomography, computational geometry, robotics, chemical mechanical planarization, computational anatomy, and visualization. The facility, with a visualization wall, motion capture equipment, 3D rendering device, and an SGI prism to provide computing power as main components, provides local access for visualization and motion capture. Subproject areas address fluid dynamics, chemical mechanical planarization (science and engineering); computational anatomy, medical visualization, tomography, medical imaging (medical informatics); visualization and graphics, immersive environments, computational geometry (computer science), etc. The infrastructure will be further advanced with an AccessGrid node, enabling researchers to conduct virtual collaborations with colleagues at other institutions that combine visualization with teleconferencing.
