A four-day workshop for Inter-American Materials Collaboration (CIAM) will be held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, in October 2006. The objective of this workshop is to stimulate international collaboration among researchers in the area of novel materials, and to create and strengthen networks of materials researchers across nations in the Americas. This CIAM workshop will continue the efforts started in Saltillo (Mexico 1995), and followed by meetings in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil 1998), Cancun (Mexico 2001), Via del Mar (Chile 2004), and Cancun (Mexico 2005). Workshop organizers will encourage and facilitate the participation of students, as well as junior scientists and engineers from all countries in the continent. The event will facilitate close interaction and intellectual exchanges by organizing poster presentations, as well as oral sessions, and a wrap-up session that will explore concrete opportunities for collaboration.

The workshop is co-supported by the Division of Materials Research and the Office of International Science and Engineering.
