This U.S. Mexico award will support a Workshop on the Global Engineering Education Challenge for the Americas, to be held in Tampico, Mexico May 29 thru June 1, 2007, co-located with the Latin American and Caribbean Conference for Engineering and Technology. The organizers of the workshop are Dr. Ivan E. Esparragoza of Penn State and Dr. Rodolfo Castello of the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. The workshop will be cosponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium of Engineering Institutions (LACCEI), Universidad Valle del Bravo, and Instituto Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico, and the Organization of American States. The aim of the workshop is to provide an enduring mechanism to promote education, research and best practices in forming world-class engineers for the Americas.

The meeting will foster communication and contact between a diverse group of senior researchers, leaders of their respective fields, and young researchers including undergraduate students from the U.S., Mexico, and other Latin America and Caribbean countries. This award will support 20 participants from the U.S., including junior and senior researchers, undergraduate, and graduate students. Women and underrepresented groups will be encouraged to participate.
