University of Rochester $80,000 12 mos. ? Modeling and Learning Selective Perception This is the first year of a three year continuing award. The research addresses decision theoretic selective control of perception, incorporating learning of macro operations from human and system generated data. A system will be implemented that can run in simulation or "real" modes. This will be used to study how much improvement can be achieved in a vision system by using selective perception driven by Bayes nets, and what factors affect this performance improvement. The ultimate goal is to monitor a dynamic domain, such as hallway or street traffic, determining traffic performance measures such as average speed, stops and failures to stop, and potential collisions. Data will also be obtained on fundamental tradeoffs among scene structure, hardware capability, control algorithms, and execution time performance. # x P C X P#
