This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of the Bioinformatics Core is to provide bioinformatics research resources, services and training for Nevada scientists to support existing research programs and to develop new research programs and grant applications. Services are offered through consultation and direct research collaborations. Use of the core is encouraged through formal and informal user training sessions. Areas of research emphasis include sequence-base bioinformatics, microarray analysis of mRNA expression, and molecular modeling. The bioinformatics core also supports the INBRE genomics and proteomics cores by providing data analysis and consultation on both DNA and protein based projects including analysis of microarray data. The Bioinformatics Core also provides systems administration support, data storage, and file transfer capabilities for the Genomics and Proteomics Cores. The Bioinformatics Core also manages communication between Polycom ViaVideo desktop communication systems through an MGC-25 Bridge. Inter-institutional video communication is managed through 3 access grid nodes funded through the LARIAT project.
