This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.I am starting a bioinformatics course at Langston University, which is included in your MARC grant. Our formal course begins August 2007. I have incorporated bioinformatics into a proposal which will be submitted to NIH in October 2006, 'Genetic Factos that Predispose African-American and Native American women to bipolar disorder resulting in substance abuse.' I have attached the project summary for this proposal. I have also incorporated bioinformatics into my research with the United States Department of Agriculture, Molecular Markers in Bromis inermis. I request this PSC coursework grant so that my students can become familiar with the hands on exercises that I performed while attending the Developing Bioinformatics Programs workshop, July 12-23, 2004. I have 4 student interns (high school and undergraduates) this summer. During the fall 2006, I will teach an Introduction to Chemical Research course with approximately 3-4 students enrolled.
