This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Exact knowledge of blood flow characteristics in the major cerebral vessels is of great relevance for diagnosing cerebro-vascular abnormalities. This involves the assessment of hemodynamically critical areas as well as the derivation of biomechanical parameters like wall shear stress and pressure gradients. For this project a time-resolved, three-dimensional phase-contrast MRI method using parallel imaging was implemented to measure blood flow in three-dimensions at multiple instances over the cardiac cycle.
