The Administrative/Statistical Core will serve three primary functions. These include administration of the science, statistical consultaiton and financial administration. For scientific administration, and to ensure that the scientific goals of the SCOR as a whole plus each individual project's goals are met, two committees have been organized. These are the Project Leaders Committee, and the Outside Advisory Panel. Each Project Leader will present to the other Project Leaders at least every six months to summarize their scientific program. Once a year, a formal, 1 - 1.5 day retreat will be scheduled and will be attended by all Project Leaders, the Outside Advisory Panel and additional visiting scientists. This is planned as a highly interactive meeting with each outside advisor providing the Program Director with a formal review of the progress of a particular project. The visiting scientists will address neededscientific areas deemed appropriate by the Project Leaders Committee. The administrator of this Core will provide the support needed to efficiently organize and run these meetings.Statistical consultation will be provided to all SCOR Projects. Dr. Hurwitz has discussed each project with Dr. White during the evaluation of the proposal and has addressed all necessary issues (sample size, study design, appropriate statistical testings, etc.). She will continue, throughout the proposal, to provide such statistical assistance.A grant of this size and complexity requires steady financial administration to assure that appropriate financialsupport is available to each project yet ensure that each project lives within budgetary constraints. TheAdministrator for this Core will provide this service for the duration of the grant.
