This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Neuroanatomical, neuropharmacological, and genetic studies have identified CNS neuronal groups that are critical in the regulation of body weight homeostasis. To assess the functional significance of these CNS pathways, it is necessary to 'perturb' neuropeptides and/or their receptors, in a neuron-specific fashion, and then assess effects on energy homeostasis. Genetic approaches in mice, utilizing cre- or flp-mediated DNA recombination (i.e., cre/LOX and flp/FRT technology), provide the means for such studies.
