The Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference (ISSC) adopts uniform procedures, incorporated into the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP), and implemented by all shellfish control authorities. The ISSC gives state shellfish programs, current and comprehensive sanitation guidelines to regulate the harvesting, processing, and shipping of shellfish. This project will enhance both the effectiveness and uniformity of the National Molluscan Shellfish Safety Program by improving the flow of information between federal and state regulatory agencies, industry, and consumers. The project will strengthen state activities by providing assistance in such areas as procedural and policy guidance, technical training, research, consumer education, and conformity with requirements of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) Model Ordinance. Also, the project provides for research opportunities related to shellfish safety.
