This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. As required by COBRE guidelines, an administrative core will be established and directed by the PI, Dr. Niles. This core will be responsible for all financial aspects of the COBRE. This will include tracking individual project/core budgets, placing orders, approving invoices for payment, scheduling travel, etc. It will also coordinate the biannual visits/meetings of the External Advisory Committee and communicate minutes of these meetings to NCRR staff. The core will handle the logistics and record minutes of the monthly meetings of COBRE personnel. In addition, we propose to establish a seminar series in Tumor Cell Biology, featuring nationally prominent oncology researchers. This program will be coordinated by Dr. Gary Rankin, one of the mentors, who also oversees the Visiting Scholars Seminar Program in the School of Medicine. Lastly, we propose to establish a pilot grant program in order to encourage other non- COBRE faculty members to initiate research in cancer biology that fits into the scientific theme of this COBRE. This mechanism should increase the critical mass of investigators involved in cancer research and ensure continued success of the COBRE center once NCRR funding has ended.e=n ?
