The Company

The mission of Grantome is to use data to drive discovery of new knowledge about scientific research grants. This knowledge can be applied to enhance the productivity and confer competitive advantage for researchers, institutions, and businesses that rely on grant funding. Towards this goal we have collected grant data from some of the world's largest and most prominent grant-giving organizations and assembled them into a single database. To facilitate discovery of the trends related to funding the specific needs of each client, we have built:

  • A search engine that uses the latest technologies to quickly and efficiently extract large amounts of grant data from the database. This same technology is used by websites such as Craigslist or Wikipedia - style websites and has high performance, stability, and reliability. The search bar is simple and easy to use. Although there are a large number of fields relevant to identification of any grant, any of these fields can be specified in a simple, intuitive way with our interface.
  • A graphical interface for real time data plotting of the results of any search. Specific fields of grants identified as part of any search can be grouped together and visualized by creating bar, scatter, or line charts. This interface was built using the latest D3.js visualization technology.
  • Data analysis services for a more in-depth exploration of any particular topic. Our data scientists can develop predictive models that identify the most significant risk factors and opportunities associated with research grants. These models can be applied to improve operating decisions and develop strategies for individuals, institutions, or companies that rely on research grants.

The Database

At the launch of Grantome, grant data are available from the U.S. National Institute of Health, which will be updated weekly as new data become available. In the near future the database will be expanded to include the U.S. National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, as well as federal grant organizations in Canada and Europe.

The Team

We are data scientists based in Cleveland, OH USA who are scientifically trained with Ph.D. degrees in quantitative disciplines. We have over a decade worth of experience in software development, statistical analysis of large datasets and their visualization. From working in various research organizations and universities in the US, Canada, and Europe, we have first hand experience in the scientific funding process.
