This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of the RCMI Translational Research Network (RTRN) is to develop a highly active integrated research and education network between Minority Serving Institutions. Jackson State University (JSU) is pleased to work with the other RCMI institutions in planning an RTRN that brings together this active research community and leverages the unique strengths of each of these institutions through the sharing of biomedical, technological, and educational resources. Jackson State University (JSU) proposes to enhance collaborative translational research capabilities by developing a framework for a clinical data management system for the collection, storage and analysis of data from multiple clinical research centers. This system will ultimately provide functionality that includes data capture and integration of many different forms of data (clinical, imaging, genetic, etc); a user-friendly system for recruitment and referral of participants for clinical studies; tool kits for data mining and data sharing; and a public website to facilitate information dissemination to clinicians, researchers, the lay public, and health policy officials. This approach will also enable the RTRN researchers to integrate data and collaborate with other clinical research networks. There is an existing Biostatistical support unit at JSU designed to provide statistical consulting to investigators in environmental health and other health related research areas. However, this unit must be strengthened and more efficient data management is required to meet the needs of the RTRN and continue to foster interdisciplinary research collaborations in the environmental health field. The goal is to develop a data management core that will be sufficiently robust to support on-going projects as well as those that will be initiated as a part of the RTRN.
