This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This study will test the following hypotheses: 1) A one hour glucose challenge test will have good predictive utility to identify individuals with IGT; 2) Opportunistic use of the glucose challenge test in a Grady Health System primary care site in Atlanta will identify many African-Americans with IGT and associated abnormalities in cardiovascular risk factors, at minimal cost; 3) Individuals identified with IGT will have an improved cardiovascular risk profile when re-evaluated two years later.
