This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine if diuretics work the same if they are taken with or without food. Previous studies have suggested that diuretics are not absorbed as well in healthy people, but these studies have never been performed in people with heart failure. This study will give people their usual dose of furosemide with and without breakfast at two different visits separated by one week. Blood and urine will be collected for 8 hours following to see how well the drug is absorbed, and to determine if there is a difference between taking furosemide with or without food.
