This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to investigate the role of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Our aim i s to demonstrate that there is an association between SIBO and ADHD. Outcome measures will include questionnaires and the TOVA test - a computer test measuring attention. Each of these outcomes will be taken before and after antibiotic treatment. An association between SIBO and ADHA will help provide a unified treatment for ADHD since there is currently no known pathophysiology for ADHD
