This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. These studies are designed to assess potential differences in the pharmacokinetics of pioglitazone in Mexican American women with previous gestational diabetes. Women who previously participated in the 'Pioglitazone in the Prevention of Diabetes' trial and whose response to pioglitazone is known will be invited to participate in this study. Ten responders and 10 non-responders will be administered a single 45 mg pioglitazone dose and blood samples will be collected over a 24 hr period to assess kinetics of pioglitazone and its metabolites. The results will determine whether response to pioglitazone is accounted for by differences in pharmacokinetics.
