Abstract

The study proposes to investigate the in-vivo effects of corticosteroids on the metabolism of normal muscel. The hypothesis that will be tested is that the sarcopenic effects of prednisone are mediate by increased muscle breakdown with littel or no effects on muscle protein synthetic rates. In-vivo measures of muscle mass and muscle proten breaksoen will be measured before and after treatment and compared to placebo.
