This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to test the safety and effectiveness of this medication, and to compare differences in how African American and Caucasian patients with hepatitis C respond to antiviral therapy and to learn why there may be differences in response. In addition, blood samples that will be obtained during the regular study visits will also be used for additional studies for special hepatitis C testing to examine why some patients do not respond to treatment.
