This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this research study is to collect both clinical information and blood samples from 1000 patients at three institutions with sickle cell disease, and then to see if there are certain inherited factors (called 'genes') that may modify the severity of the disease. This study seeks to find those genes that make the expression of sickle cell disease less severe and those genes that make it more severe.
