This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The primary aim of this study is to determine whether androgen receptor blockade using the androgen receptor antagonist flutamide will relieve symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder. A placebo controlled, parallel design pilot study will be conducted. 64 subjects will be recruited, which will allow detection of a large effect of flutamide treatment, and provide data to estimate smaller effect sizes for use in design of a larger-scale study, if indicated. Tolerability of flutamide treatment will also be estimated by comparison of side effects between flutamide and placebo treatment.
