This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The proposed study is an 8-week pilot study intended to determine the effectiveness, acceptability and feasibility of Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) as a treatment for Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). At baseline, weeks 4 and 8 of the intervention, self-report psychological symptom measures, neuropsychological testing, and measurement of serum markers of stress and anxiety will be used to assess the impact of MBCT on symptoms of GAD. The Investigators hypothesize that MBCT will be associated with a reduction in anxiety symptoms, improvements in subjective well-being and neuropsychological status, as well as favorable changes in levels of serum markers of stress and anxiety.
