This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Hypothesis: two different approaches to weight reduction diets, carbohydrate-controlled versus fat-controlled, will have different effects on serum lipoprotein fractions, triglyceride levels, and dietary satisfaction. This is a pilot study using patient volunteers from the Cardiac Prevention program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Specifically, weight loss will be monitored, serum lipoprotein and triglyceride levels as well as dietary satisfaction will be compared over a 10-week feeding period followed by a 10-week follow-up period when subjects will manage the two diets themselves.
