This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. There has been much speculation as to whether there is a decrease in the ability to burn fat as one ages, and whether this contributes to weight gain with aging. Further, it is not know if this is affected by performing exercise. In this study, we will compare the amount of energy expended and fat burned over 24 hours in old and young subjects. We will compare these groups on two days; 1) a day without exercise; 2) a day with exercise.
