This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The goal of this research is to understand the effects of aging on the energetics of locomotion. We will be measuring how efficient the body is at using metabolic energy and how the muscles behave inclined walking. In addition, we will be measuring how side-to-side stabilization affects the amount of energy used, the movements of the legs, and the behavior of leg muscles during walking.
