Corticosteroids are tapered in the 3 months after transplantation and tacrolimus is continued. Participants are regularly assessed for recurrence of hepatitis and for evidence of allograft rejection. One year after transplantation, participants suitable for withdrawal are randomly assigned to immunosuppression withdrawal or maintenance. Participants assigned to withdrawal undergo a scheduled taper over 1 year.
