This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The primary objective of this study is to assess the preliminary efficacy of Combidex MR imaging in defining and localizing nodal involvement by metastatic breast cancer. Numerous pre-clinical and clinical studies demonstrate that Combidex can identify cancer-involved lymph nodes with high specificity. This study will further evaluate the ability of Combidex MR to correctly identify and localize axillary nodal involvement by metastatic breast cancer. It is hoped that MR imaging of lymph nodes with Combidex will be a more effective procedure for imaging lymph node disease associated with breast cancer than the procedures that are currently available. The secondary objective of the study is to determine how Combidex changes the MR imaging appearance of primary breast tumors. About 30-50 patients will take part in this study from this medical center.
