This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Currently Cystic Fibrosis (CF) patients with impaired insulin secretion are not routinely treated with exogenous insulin if their fasting glucose levels are normal. This study aims to show that chronic treatment with either insulin or an oral stimulator of endogenous insulin secretion will lead to improved muscle mass and clinical status in insulin-deficient adults with CF.
