This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. In this proposal we will test the hypothesis that aldosterone is a critical mediator of impaired fibrinolysis and endothelial dysfunction in the metabolic syndrome.
Specific Aim 1 : To characterize the effects of aldosterone antagonism on the fibrinolytic system in humans with the metabolic syndrome.
Specific Aim 2 : To define the effects of eplerenone vs. placebo on endothelial dysfunction in humans with the metabolic syndrome.
Specific Aim 3 : To characterize the effects of aldosterone on arterial compliance in humans with the metabolic syndrome.
