This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.Null Hypothesis: No specific difference will be found in brianstem activation or regional connectivity during EM pattern presentation.
Specific aims of the curent pilot studies:
Specific Aim #1 : to demonstrate the possibility of imaging brainstem activation effects during guided eye movements.Study 1: Block design study with infinity-shaped EM alternating with rest.
Specific Aim #2 : to compare brainstem activation during guided eye movement among different EM patterns: horizontal, diagonal, circular and infinity. Within-subject differences are expected to be significantamong the four EM patterns.Study 2: Series of AM patterns rotating through four patterns.
Specific Aim of future study based on findings of current pilot study: to compare brainstem/limbic system activation during guided eye movement between chronic pain patients with PTSD and healthy controls who have neither chronic pain nor PTSD.
