This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a 'natural history' study of endometrial carcinoma whose overall goal is to improve outcome and quality of life. It will 1) establish a repository of clinical specimens (tissue, urine, serum) with detailed clinical and epidemiologic data; 2) utilize the specimens for genomic, proteomic and immunoassays; 3) combine the clinical, epidemiologic and laboratory results to improve risk assessment models; and 4) use all the information to derive characteristics that would expand our knowledge of the prevention and treatment of endometrial cancer. Categories for study are as follows: 1) cytogenetics, ploidy, allelic imbalance, chromosomal gains/losses; 2) comprehensive molecular classification (expression profiling, proteomic profiling, hormonal levels/receptors); 3) epidemiologic factors. It is hoped that the information that is collected in this study can be used by researchers to learn more about, treat, and prevent endometrial cancer.
