This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.The general goal of this pilot study is to test the ability of in vivo 1H MRS, enhanced by our newly developed rectal probe (RF coil) and our 4 Tesla magnet, to characterize and detect rectal cancers. If the study shows that MRS can be used to detect viable rectal cancer, it will be used as justification for further clinical studies.
