This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of the proposal is to perform the insulin suppression test (IST) in 20 subjects to gain experience and train our staff. The IST is a physiologic study that involves simultaneous infusion of glucose, insulin and octreotide for 3 hours. During the IST, glucose and insulin levels reach steady state levels; these allow direct quantification of insulin resistance and insulin clearance. These are traits that we will be examining in future research studies.
