Abstract

The purpose of this study is to see if giving insulin will prevent or delay the development of IDDM in persons at high risk for development of IDDM. Studies in animals and small studies in people suggest that this may be possible. The Diabetes Prevention Trial - 1 is an NIH sponsored trial to determine whether treatment of subcutaneous or oral insulin can prevent type I diabetes in individuals who are high risk for this disease. The study is ongoing.
