Using the GCRC computing system, we conducted a meta analysis of 26 trials to determine the effectiveness of potassium supplementation in hypertension treatment and prevention. Potassium supplementation resulted in a small but statistically significant reduction in blood pressure. The response to potassium supplementation was influenced by trial design features, level of blood pressure and urinary sodium/potassium.
