Abstract

This is a proposal to study the metabolic turnover of variant forms of plasma prealbumin. These variant forms of the serum protein are associated with hereditary amyloidosis. Each variant represents a single amino acid change in the protein, and it is hypothesized that the metabolic fate of these variant proteins is involved in the pathogenesis of the amyloidosis.
