This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Determine the effect of cysteamine on leukocyte cystine, blood cysteamine and gastrin levels when administered directly into the stomach, small intestine or colon. Learn if hypergastrinemia and gastric acid-hypersecretion differ based on the site of cysteamine delivery. Decide whether it might be advantageous to develop a slow-release cysteamine delivery system or whether there would be a significant advantage to simply delivering the drug to a different intestinal site.
