This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Determine whether lung cancer screening using low-dose helical CT reduces lung cancer-specific mortality relative to screening with chest radiographs in high-risk cohort. Compare all cause mortality between screening with CT versus chest radiographs, compare differences in stage distribution between the two arms of the study, compare lung-cancer related medical resource utilization between the two arms of the study, compare issues of quality of life and psychological impact associated with annual screening and with a positive screening test between the two arms of the study.
