This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. Chronic hyperplastic sinusitis/nasal polyposis is an immune inflammatory disease characterized by the accumulation of fibroblasts, mast cells, goblet cells, and eosinophils which often occurs in association with bronchial asthma. Measurement of hyperplastic tissue is the only meaningful parameter of assessing presence, severity, and clinical course of this condition. These pilot studies are essential in order to provide data for our proposed interventions.
