This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. This is a study to assess the acute effects of the use of a glider rocker with a rocking ottoman (that are widely commercially available) on blood pressure and heart rate in adults. Based on our data on the hemodynamic effects of the footrest with walking movement [V.A. Kryzhanovski, et al., Journal of Hypertension, 2004; 22 (Suppl 2): S95.], we propose that utilization of a glider rocker with a rocking ottoman will be accompanied by beneficial acute changes (lowering) of systolic blood pressure in middle-aged and older sedentary adults.
