This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing the resources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject and investigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed is for the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to compare blood and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) anti-KLH (keyhole limpet hemocyanin) antibody isotype profiles and peripheral blood CD4+ T cell cytokine production after systemic or pulmonary exposure to KLH in patients with atopic asthma compared with healthy control subjects. This study will also determine if the anti-KLH antibody isotype and CD4 response to pulmonary or systemic KLH in asthmatics can be modulated by pretreatment with inhaled nedocromil or glucocorticosteroids (budesonide).
