The aim of this study is to investigate the association of depressed circulating leptin levels and blunted ventilatory responses. A secondary aim is to compare hormone levels (primarily leptin), metabolic rate, and ventilatory responsiveness in obese subjects versus subjects with a normal body mass index. A tertiary aim is to evaluate the changes in sleep patterns in subjects consuming a reduced calorie diet.
