This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source,and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator.The main hypothesis to be tested in this study is whether long-term weight loss and increased physical activity through the Look AHEAD intensive lifestyle intervention protocol improves endothelial function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to a control condition involving a program of diabetes support and education. All measurements will be done at baseline and after 1 year and 3 years of intervention.
