This subproject is one of many research subprojects utilizing theresources provided by a Center grant funded by NIH/NCRR. The subproject andinvestigator (PI) may have received primary funding from another NIH source, and thus could be represented in other CRISP entries. The institution listed isfor the Center, which is not necessarily the institution for the investigator. The purpose of this study is to determine whether 3 months of a fiber supplement (Metamucil) can reduce inflammatory markers (substances in the blood that indicate your body's level of inflammation, similar to your body's response to injury or infection) that are associated with heart and blood vessel disease. We are looking for healthy adult volunteers 40-65 years old because similar people have been found to have higher levels of inflammatory markers. Healthy people of this age range are most likely to benefit from the findings of this study. We plan to enroll 180 people.
